Before booking a stay in Costa Rica, there is a question we don’t think travelers ask often enough:
What do you actually want your vacation to feel like?
Do you want seven days of adventure?
Do you want to wake up early, hike, zipline, visit waterfalls, see wildlife, drive somewhere new, and do it all again tomorrow?
Maybe.
But maybe what you really want is to slow down.
Maybe you want a few unforgettable experiences mixed with long afternoons by the pool. Maybe you want to explore a rainforest one day and spend the next listening to the river. Maybe you want to discover a hidden waterfall, then come back and take a nap.
Maybe you want to see Costa Rica.
But maybe you also want to feel Costa Rica.
And those are two very different vacations.

The best Costa Rica itinerary leaves room to enjoy the moments between the adventures.
You Don’t Need to See All of Costa Rica
Costa Rica is remarkably diverse for a relatively small country. Rainforests, cloud forests, volcanoes, beaches, rivers, waterfalls, mangroves and wildlife-rich national parks can all become part of a trip.
Which is wonderful.
It can also create a problem.
There is so much to do that planning a Costa Rica vacation can quickly become an exercise in trying to fit everything in.
One itinerary says you should visit Arenal.
Another says Monteverde is essential.
Someone else tells you not to miss Manuel Antonio, while another traveler insists you need to get to the Osa Peninsula.
Before long, your relaxing tropical vacation has become a logistical puzzle.
How long is the drive?
Where do we park?
What time does the tour start?
When do we need to leave?
Can we fit another activity in?
And suddenly you’re spending your vacation watching the clock.
We think there is a better way.
Choose what matters most to you, then build the trip around that.
Costa Rica rewards travelers who leave a little room for the unexpected.
A rainy afternoon can become one of your favorite memories.
A slow breakfast can stretch into lunch.
A swim can turn into an hour of doing absolutely nothing.
And sometimes the experience you remember most isn’t the one you carefully researched six months ago.
It’s the one you didn’t plan at all.
Start With the Experience, Not the Attraction
When you’re planning a Costa Rica itinerary, it is tempting to start with a list of places.
Manuel Antonio.
Waterfalls.
National parks.
Beaches.
Wildlife.
Rainforest.
But we think it makes more sense to start with a feeling.
Ask yourself:
What do I want to experience while I’m here?
Maybe you want adventure.
Maybe you want wildlife.
Maybe you want to reconnect with nature.
Maybe you want to spend uninterrupted time together.
Maybe you want a little bit of everything.
Once you know that, the rest becomes much easier.
For example, if wildlife is important to you, we might suggest a guided visit to a national park rather than simply telling you where to go.
If you’re looking for something more private and adventurous, there are experiences in the area that aren’t always obvious from a Google search.
If you’re craving a slower day, perhaps the best recommendation is not another excursion at all.
Maybe it’s breakfast at home, a swim, an afternoon at the river and a sunset somewhere beautiful.
The goal isn’t to fill every available hour.
The goal is to make the hours you have feel worthwhile.

Some Costa Rica Experiences Aren’t Easy to Find Online
This is one of the things we have learned living and working here.
There is a huge amount of information about Costa Rica online.
But information isn’t necessarily the same thing as local knowledge.
You can find hundreds of tour operators, restaurants, guides and activities with a few searches.
The harder question is:
Who would you actually trust with your own guests?
That’s an important distinction for us.
When we recommend someone to our guests, we aren’t simply pulling a name from a search result and passing along a phone number.
We have relationships with people here.
We know who we have worked with.
We know who we trust.
And, whenever possible, we recommend experiences and people we would feel comfortable sending our own friends and family to.
Because there is a difference between booking something and booking something with confidence.
We’ve seen how an experience can become much less enjoyable when an operator doesn’t communicate well, changes plans unexpectedly, cancels, or simply isn’t as reliable as expected.
And when you’re on vacation, those little problems can feel much bigger.
You have limited time.
You don’t want to spend it trying to figure out whether the person you booked is actually going to show up.
That’s why our recommendations are personal.
Your Costa Rica Vacation Doesn’t Have to Be All Adventure
This may be our favorite part.
You don’t have to earn your relaxation by exhausting yourself first.
Costa Rica isn’t going anywhere.
You can have an incredible adventure in the morning and still spend the afternoon doing absolutely nothing.
At White Noise, we see this happen all the time.
A guest might spend the morning exploring the rainforest or visiting a waterfall.
Then they come back, get into the pool, make lunch, read a book and listen to the jungle.
Another couple might spend one day exploring and the next barely leave their home.
And honestly?
We think both are wonderful ways to experience Costa Rica.
One of the reasons we built our homes the way we did was to make staying in feel like part of the experience.
The river is there.
The jungle is there.
The pool is there.
The rain is there.
The birds are there.
You don’t always need somewhere else to go.
Sometimes the best part of the itinerary is the blank space between everything else.

This Is Where Our Complimentary Concierge Comes In
Once you’ve booked your stay with us, we don’t just send you a confirmation and wish you luck.
We send you our local planning information so you can start thinking about what you’d like your Costa Rica vacation to look like.
And then we’re here when you need us.
You can reach us personally through WhatsApp or email.
We answer your questions.
We make suggestions.
We help you decide what is actually worth fitting into your stay.
And when you’d like us to, we help create your itinerary.
Our concierge service is complimentary for White Noise Costa Rica guests because we believe the planning should be part of the experience — not another thing you have to struggle through.
We can help with things like:
- National and local parks and conservation areas
- Trusted guides and private experiences
- Restaurants and local food recommendations
- Friday farmers market information
- Airport transfers and local transportation
- Rental car information
- Small local flights and transportation options
- Massages and wellness experiences
- Soulo Bath House reservations
- Private excursions and experiences
- Driving directions and practical information
- Building an itinerary that fits the pace you actually want
And sometimes we can help you find something you wouldn’t necessarily discover on your own.
For example, one of the experiences we can arrange is a private horseback ride through the jungle to a hidden waterfall.
That’s very different from simply searching “horseback riding Costa Rica” and choosing the first result.
It’s the difference between finding an activity and finding an experience that fits your trip.
We Also Know When to Say, “Don’t Book That.”
This may be one of the more valuable parts of having someone local on the other end of your WhatsApp or inbox.
Sometimes the best advice isn’t another recommendation.
It’s knowing what not to add.
Maybe the drive is too long for the amount of time you’ll actually have there.
Maybe the experience doesn’t make sense during the season you’re visiting.
Maybe we know of another option that better fits what you’re looking for.
Maybe your itinerary is already full.
Or maybe we simply think you should leave that afternoon open.
That’s part of planning a good vacation.
A good itinerary isn’t a list of everything you could do.
It’s a thoughtful selection of the things you’ll actually enjoy.

Plan Ahead — But Don’t Plan Every Minute
We generally recommend arranging popular experiences in advance, particularly during Costa Rica’s busier tourism months.
Some experiences have limited availability, and the best guides and operators can fill their calendars.
For that reason, we encourage guests to start thinking about their plans before they arrive.
But there is no need to panic six months in advance.
We typically begin helping guests with their specific stay no earlier than about two weeks before arrival, when their travel plans are becoming more immediate and useful details can be confirmed.
And if you suddenly decide during your stay that you’d love to do something tomorrow?
Sometimes we can make it happen with only a day or two of notice.
We can’t promise availability, of course.
But we’re happy to ask.
That’s part of why having a real person here matters.
Your Itinerary Should Leave Room for Pura Vida
There is something slightly ironic about creating the perfect Costa Rica itinerary.
If you schedule every morning, every meal, every excursion and every sunset, you may leave no room for the very thing people come to Costa Rica looking for.
A slower way of living.
A little more spontaneity.
A little less urgency.
A conversation that lasts longer than expected.
A storm rolling through the jungle.
A swim that turns into an afternoon.
A meal you didn’t plan.
A road you decide to explore.
A morning where nobody asks, “What’s next?”
That’s the part no itinerary template can really give you.
And maybe that’s why the best Costa Rica itinerary isn’t the one that does the most.
It’s the one that leaves you enough room to actually experience where you are.

You Plan the Feeling. We’ll Help With the Details.
We don’t want to plan every minute of your vacation for you.
That’s not the point.
We want to help you figure out what belongs in it.
If you want adventure, we’ll help you find it.
If you want wildlife, we’ll point you in the right direction.
If you want a quiet day, we’ll help protect it.
If you want to discover something a little more personal, we’ll tell you what we know.
And if you’re not sure what you want yet?
That’s okay too.
Tell us what you want your Costa Rica vacation to feel like.
We’ll help you figure out what belongs in it.
Then you can put your feet up, get in the pool, listen to the jungle and enjoy the part that brought you here in the first place.
Because sometimes the best itinerary is the one that leaves a little room for nothing at all.
Lounge a little longer.
Build Your Costa Rica Itinerary Around How You Want to Feel
A good Costa Rica itinerary doesn’t have to be filled with excursions.
It can be a morning watching wildlife from your terrace. A swim while the jungle wakes up around you. An afternoon beside the river. A few hours exploring somewhere you’ve never been. Then dinner, a fire, and absolutely nowhere else you need to be.
That’s one of the reasons we encourage our guests to think about how they want their vacation to feel before deciding what they want to do.
Maybe Your Adventure Is Already Outside Your Door
At White Noise, nature isn’t something you have to schedule.
Wildlife moves through the property. Birds call from the trees. Butterflies drift through the gardens. Squirrel monkeys occasionally pass through the forest, and the river creates a constant soundtrack below.
Sometimes the best plan is simply to sit still long enough to notice.

Maybe Your Perfect Afternoon Is Doing Absolutely Nothing
There is something wonderfully indulgent about realizing you don’t have anywhere else to be.
At Pond House you can spend the morning exploring and come home to the pool, the jungle and the quiet rhythm of the property.
No tour departure time.
No driving.
No checklist.
Just time.

Maybe You Want the River to Be Part of the Experience
At Butterfly Bungalow, the Río Damitas becomes part of the rhythm of the day.
Coffee can happen beside the river.
An afternoon swim can become a river dip.
The sound of flowing water can follow you into the evening.
And suddenly you realize that you didn’t need to drive anywhere to experience something distinctly Costa Rican.

And Sometimes Slowing Down Means Making Time for Wellness
Not every memorable Costa Rica experience has to involve a long drive or an early morning start.
Soulo Bath House was created around exactly the opposite idea: slow down, move at your own pace, and let nature become part of the experience.
Set beside the Damitas River, the private riverside spa combines heat, cold water, rest and time in nature. It’s three hours designed around the idea that you don’t need to rush from one thing to the next.

The Point Isn’t to Do Less. It’s to Experience More.
This is the difference between an itinerary that simply fills time and one that actually feels like a vacation.
You might spend one day exploring.
Another day doing almost nothing.
You might discover wildlife without leaving the property.
You might visit a waterfall you’ve never heard of.
You might spend an afternoon in the pool.
You might sit beside the river and realize an hour has passed.
None of those moments needs to compete with the others.
They are all part of the experience.
And when you give yourself enough room between the plans, Costa Rica has a funny way of filling those spaces for you.
